Careers Hubs are a central part of the government’s Careers Strategy and Statutory Guidance for School Leaders which aim to help all secondary schools and colleges implement high quality careers guidance to help young people develop the knowledge, skills & behaviours to make informed decisions around their future choices.
The Marches Careers Hub supports educational institutions within the local authority areas of Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and works to transform careers education across The Marches region by linking education with business and helping secondary schools and colleges achieve the Gatsby Benchmarks of world class careers guidance. Ensuring that young people receive impartial opportunities to explore the local labour market, receive inspiring experiences with employers and have meaningful encounters of the workplace. The work that we do is crucial to the local economy and ensuring that the future talent pipeline is prepared to enter the world of work with the foundational knowledge, skills and behaviours to reduce skills shortages and build a thriving economy.
Our Careers Live page plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between employers, training providers and future talent. As it broadens the reach and promotion of opportunities across a rural geography. Providing a resource for schools, colleges and parents to understand local opportunities and pathways. Whilst supporting employers and training providers to inspire and inform future talent.

Our first broadcast will be hosted on the 12th Feb 2025 @ 10:00 am focusing on ‘Everything you need to know about Apprenticeships’ this broadcast will cover:

On the 5th March 2025 @ 9:15 am you can join us during National Careers Week to explore:
- The Marches Local Labour Market and why it’s useful

- Why Post 16 provider?
- Supported Internships?
On the 1st May @ 9:15am you can join us for the SEND post-16 pathways broadcast
This broadcast is for parents of young people who have special educational needs and disabilities who are starting to think about moving on from school and choosing their ‘next steps’. We will feature examples of some different next step educational and training opportunities with advice from professionals who support young people with SEND when they are moving on from school to a new setting e.g. a college course, a supported internship, a learning programme.
On the 12th June @ 09:15 am we will be hosting an ‘Essential skills workshop’ aim at young people who have been unable to secure a work experience placement or those that would benefit from further developing keys skills required in the world of work. Industry professionals will be delivering sessions and activities exploring:
- Recruitment what employers look for
- Cv writing
- Interview Preparation
- Entrepreneurship
- Soft skills
- How to use social media to support your entry to the workplace
