Database Administrator Trainee (working from home)

We’re excited to be hiring a Database Administer to join our growing team.

This role is only available to people eligible to work as part of the Government’s Kickstart Scheme.

What’s the kickstart scheme?
Kickstart offers an opportunity of a 6 month work placement (25 hours a week), accessible to young people aged 16-24 who are in receipt of Universal Credit and at risk of long-term unemployment.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll gain some excellent experience across a broad range of areas, which will require you to:
establish the needs of users and monitor user access and security
monitor performance and manage parameters in order to provide fast responses to front-end users
map out the conceptual design for a planned database
consider both back-end organisation of data and front-end accessibility for end-users
refine the logical design so that it can be translated into a specific data model
further refining the physical design to meet system storage requirements
install and test new versions of the database management system (DBMS)
maintain data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act
write database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata)
control access permissions and privileges
develop, manage and test back-up and recovery plans
work closely with IT project managers, database programmers and multimedia programmers
commission and install new applications and customise existing applications in order to make them fit for purpose
manage the security and disaster recovery aspects of a database.

Job requirements
For this role you will need experience of C#.

You will have an excellent telephone manner and be courteous and empathetic.
You will need some sort of exposure to relational databases i.e., sql, postgres
You will have experience working in customer service, ideally in an online retail environment as well as excellent communication and team working skills with the ability to work with and influence others within a culture of Continuous Improvement.
You will have strong IT skills including experience of web-based retail systems, Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams, and be willing to go beyond the call of duty.
This role is home-based (UK only) and you will need to supply your own laptop with a high-speed internet connection.

What are the working hours?
You’ll work 25 hours per week. The times will be agreed between us upon joining.
