London Gatwick is the UK’s second largest airport with one of the world’s most efficient single runways. We have the most extensive rail catchment of any UK airport and 15 million people – more than a quarter of the population of England – can access Gatwick by road or rail within 60 minutes.
We serve more than 200 destinations in over 60 countries. Uniquely, we’re home to a mix of airline operators from scheduled to low-cost and charter airlines and can service varied aircraft ranging from prop engines to A380s. Our goal for the airport to reach net zero is 2030, which we brought forward from 2040. This year we became the first international airport to open an Electric Forecourt®. We also changed our diesel vehicle fleet to run on Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), as Richard explains in this broadcast. You’ll also hear from Tom who will be talking about our aims to make our passengers’ journeys to the airport more sustainable and learn about other projects that are part of our journey to net zero.

On this broadcast we joined forces with one of our airport partners, GGS Ground Services (a subsidiary of British Airways, providing a full range of ground handling services at London Gatwick). They manage ground handling for British Airways, BA Euroflyer, Air India, Qatar Airways, Aer Lingus, Iberia Express and Vueling.
At GGS there is a whole range of job roles involved in getting passengers and bags from check-in, through the airport, onto an aircraft and safely on the way to their destination. We’ll follow this journey and learn about their jobs and the skills and qualities needed to do the roles effectively.
